Lovely dragons. I've only got room for one more tank though! I've got room for a 2.5 gallon, so methinks I'll get a scorpion.

awww. they look cute :) id love a bearded dragon! are they relatively easy pets to look after?

Must...petnap...beardies!!! Naw j/k but I do wish I had enough room for one. As I said before, I'll probably just get another 2.5 and get a scorpion of some kind, might even get a 5 gal if I have the room.

Yeah, sand would be ok at this point. They're big enough to handle sand.

You should use (if you really want to use sand, which needs to be changed often, sifting doesnt prevent bacteria growth) it should be childrens washed and sifted playsand... no calci-sand or anything sold in reptile stores.. this has a clumping effect if swallowed which clogs the intestines (impaction)

Their tank looks a bit bare... what else is in there? I also agree they look thin, but that might just be apart of their growth spurt as one of mine went through a thin stage as she rapidly grew.

Here is one of my beardie enclosures... this is a custom built 4x2x2 made of plywood and oak... there is two UVB lights for optimal UVB no matter where they went... two basking area's as they were a breeding pair and needed their own space... the substrate is tile (which is optimal for cleaning and disenfecting) tile also absorbs the heat well so they are able to easily digest their food. They also had a hide as well.(Sorry pics may be crappy)

If you need any imformation on yours let me know I can try to help with anything..

By the way do you know the gender? If you have one male and one female, the male may tried to breed the female too early, which can cause the female to stress, or become full of eggs too early, sometimes resulting in death. Just an FYI...

they are male and female and the male is already trying to breed with her
can you tell me what bulbs your using?and are you using a heatmat?and what diet you have them on :good:

The bulbs are standard flood lights (both 50 watts) it makes the basking area a bit too hot, but we have them on a dimmer and are able to dim them to a good temperature of 105F... the 24" UVB is a 10.0 and im not sure about the small one (that one was only a 6") Since they are adults they are on a 20% insect to 80% veggie.... the veggies are collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens and butternut squash... we give them a treat of mango or papaya once in awhile (fruit contains alot of sugar) insects we feed are mainly large crickets, with superworms occasionally, and waxworms as a once in a great while treat.

Here is Taz eating his greens like a good boy! lol

We dont use heatmats either... the risk of malfunction is not a risk im willing to take... there is nowhere to put a heat mat anyways..the lights are turned off at night, because temp at night for beardies can saftley drop to 65F

By the way a female has to be a certain weight before she should breed... the female should be 350 grams and 18 months old before breeding... underwieght females can die or if bred too early... so just know that.
