I am currently looking for a natural way to control beard/hair algae. I have cut back lighting by 2 hours per day, added more plants, and fed extremely sparingly. I have seen mediocre results with these tactics, so i was wondering what a good fish/invert would be that would help me out. My tank is 29g fully planted, eheim 2213 canister filter, 65w 6700k compact fluorescent strip light. Current tank inhabitants are... 8 cherry barbs, 3 corydoras aenus and a common plec. Water parameters are 7.0ph/medium hardness/temperature 75f.

I bought some mollies to begin with and they loved the beard algae. Then I got a siamese algae eater, as my daughter wanted the mollies in her tank. Seems to be working fine.

Also, you could try running with RO water, as beard algae seems to flourish with high phosphates levels.

Worked for me, but sure some others have other ideas.
