Are the beanie baby containers I see for sale on the Internet, and that I hear so much about on the forums okay for permanent housing for a betta, or are they just cheap housing for fry?

Also, do you guys think a Whisper internal 10i filter is okay for a male betta in a 10 gallon? Or will it create too much current? Anyone had any experience with these?

I don't think any betta should be permanently housed in a beanie, but they are excellent for young fry because frequent water changes assist in growth and the smaller containers are easier to change.

As for your filter, it's up to the betta :p I know tons of people use that particular filter, and your betta may not mind it at all. Or he'll hate it, you'll have to watch him. You can always rig up something to break the current just in case.

As innumerable threads have stated, a betta should never permanently live in anything less than a one gallon. Not that he COULDN'T survive OK in a beanie container, but the betta wouldn't be too happy.

Any suggestions for "rigging something up to break the current"? I plan to get the Whisper internal (only $11!!), but I want to know what I could do if the betta I buy doesn't like the current.

keep the water level high so the water from the filter doesn't have such a long way to go, and won't spatter as hard. Maybe, if you can, keep the water level up just underneath where the filter pushes out water. This should make a less harsh current.

EDIT: spelling

I have my filter pushed down the tank and a vertical slate decoration diagonally across in front of the filter, this slows the current right down, the water is fairly still on the top and a gentle current lower down. The betta doesn't mind this at all and he is only a baby. :)

doesn't the whisper internal have the option of putting two suction cups on the back rather than the hook thing. You could just put it REALLY close the the water line and put a stocking around the intake.
