Do beach pebbles increase or decrease ph

I normally stick 1 in a cup with tank water and have another cup with just tank water and then test the pH of both in a few days.
Dont know if this is any good but it puts my mind to rest lol.

That's by far the best thing to do; you do need to have the cup with just water too, as the ph of tap water can drop over a couple of days.

There's no way of telling just from the description 'beach pebbles' what kind of rock they are; they could be almost anything.
