Some of you may have read my earlier posts about my tempermental terror Batista. Among other things, he hates ghost shrimp, ADF's and most of all current. I have had him in a 2 1/2 gal glass tank with a heater, but I took the UGF filter out because he hated the current so bad that he would hide or else chew on his tail. Doing 100% water changes was becoming a real chore in the 2 1/2 gal tank because of the location of the tank in my bedroom and having to take it to the kitchen which involved a pretty good walk and steps. I was in my LFS last week and they had a clearance on a little Penn-Plax box filter that stuck in the corner of the tank with suction cups. The filter was small and I knew it wouldn't do much, but I really didn't need much with just Batista and Snail in the tank. I decided what the heck, it was on clearance, I'd get a gang valve to keep the current down and give it a try. :dunno:

The first day, Batista checked it out a little and then fled to his cave to hide. I gave a deep sigh and thought I'd leave it for another day or so and then if he didn't get any better with it I'd pull it out. :( The next day when I checked on him I almost freaked out!!!. He was laying on top of the filter!. I was afraid he'd gotten his tail hung in it and couldn't get it out. Wrong. He was asleep! :D

He has now started to lay on top of the filter with his little butt in the bubbles and his head hanging over the side to sleep. When he is awake, he swims over to the bubbles and sticks his butt into them every few minutes and shakes his fanny. Then he will swim away only to do the same thing again a few minutes later.

Needless to say, the filter will stay. I wouldn't dare take his "bed" away. I just can't get over him hating the current from one filter so much and then loving it in the other. Just goes to show what curious little creatures they are. :D

That is very sweet. One of my little guys sleeps in between the suction cups of the heater. It scared me at first, but he is fine. Yesterday I found one of my girls stuck to the intake of my filter. I nearly had a heart attack. But apparantly she just wanted to rest there, because when I went to get her, she swam away, no damage to her fins at all. Crazy fish. Gotta love 'em!
