Barbels on danios.

We bought a few baby Danios a couple of months ago under the assumption that they where all Zebra Danios (they all looked alike).

One of them now looks more like a Pearl Danio but it has Glass Catfish like barbels (2 of) pointing down from it's mouth. I have checked the pics in my fish books but none of the pics show a Danio with barbels...

It still enjoys swimming round with the rest of the Danios. Anyone any ideas of what it is

It it infact a Zebra or Pearl Danio?

I will try and get a picture today if I can.

All Danios have 2 pairs of barbels.

The fish pictured looks more like a Pearl then a Zebra but it's not easy to tell - bit blurred.

I never noticed them on any of my other Danios just that one... Freaked me out a little.

I only have 2 remaining pearl danios, but I used to have a little school of them. Several had very noticable barbells, and a couple did not. It was something I noticed many times, but no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't see the barbells on two of the fish.

I had quite a surprise the first time i noticed them too. I thought they were sick or something!

Barbels are adorable! I remember when I found the barbels on my zebras several years ago!
