I have just noticed one of 4 Puntius Denisonii barbs acting strange. He was sitting in the pump current at the surface gulping! Upon futher inspection he has a white line above (not on) his eye and a brown patch along his side covering his red line. He is constantly gulping and not acting his normal self.

The other 3 barbs are fine.

I also have 3 Clown Loaches and they are fine also.

Anyone got any ideas on what it could be or recommend any treatment?

Any help much appreciated.

Beautiful fish. I just had to check out what it looked from the latin.

Is the 'white line' a seperate entity from the fish? Does it seem half-buried within the fishs' side?

If the answer is yes, to both, then I think you may have a parasite called an 'Anchorworm' (learnaea) attached to the fish. Please read the following topic I had wrote.....

The brown patch could be an exposed part of the fishs' flesh that's starting to go bad (if not already).

Could you get a photo?

Can't get a pic at the moment - I lent my camera out only the other day!

Still, it's hard to tell if the white line above his eye is on or under his skin. It doesn't really protrude at all but it's hard to say. This morning it looks like the other eye is starting to get the same "white line" above it but it's more of a dot than a line at the moment.

I noticed a "loose" scale in front of his anal fin this morning.

The brown patch just seems like colouration, I can't see any change in the texture of his skin/scales at the place where the brown colouration is.

I have started treatment with Sterazin (anti-parasite).
