I bought 6 tiger barbs on the weekend but when i got them home i realised one of them is obviously different. His stripes arent as strong as the others, he doesnt have the reddy orange bits on the tips of his fins but does have a feint red coloring around the head area, he is the same shape as the others. Can anyone tell me what he is plese?

There are sooo many Tiger Barb colour variations available and they interbreed to produce fry which could be in any stage of the transformation making you believe that you have a different species... I think it might just be another Tiger Barb you have.

Possibly, never kept barbs before. The 5 that are the same are shoaling together but the odd one doesnt mix with them. The shop i got them from is 20 miles away so will have to wait till weekend and go back. Cheers anyway.

my bet it is still a tiger barb, there is lots of variations now, albino, green, platinum greed, moss, red.
sounds like the diamond tiger barb to me, take a look;

is it anything like that?

Thanks dave but not like that, mine has very faint red below/behind eye area and the stripes like a tiger but not as dark and sharp as the tiger.

Could be a juvenile black ruby barb or possibly a pentazona

Thanks davo86, just googled them, not the black ruby but looks very similar to pentazona. Will count the bands when i get home tonight and see if it has 5. cheers.

Sorry no can do. I barely text and e-mail. adding things is totally beyond me, and would involve buying a camera!! i still have 4 tv channels.
