What type of barb is this? Its currently around 1.5cm long. Should I be worried about the red towards the gills area as it's only showing on a couple of the little chaps. They all seem healthy enough and dart around a shoal together come up for feeding ok and aren't being bullied.

The spaner barb looks to have a narrower tail these. I was told these would get brighter as they get older too.

I have some tiger barbs too, they are almost identical apart from they have black fins and the tigers have red fins. I have green tiger barbs too and the shape is identical to those.

with the gills been red it could be a gill desease (quite rare) or oxygen starvation or a water quality issue of some kind

i'll keep reading for you

i cant seem to find a match mate sorry unless its a hybrid barb xbreed or something im not sure someone else maybe able to id it for you but in the meantime i will keep looking for you it looks like a spannerbarb x with a scarlet barb (or cherry barb)

I was told when I got them that they would have a brighter colouration when they got older. Think ill pop back down to the shop and ask them what they are called. None of the other fish in the tank are showing any signs of illness. The camera is making the red look a lot brighter. Fast little creatures, dare devils too they don't seem to care about swimming through the lobster cave.

Thanks everyone, Ill try asking the shop what exactly they are.

no worries mate they might have a bit of albino in them or something thats why the gills look pinkish or not lol

keep us posted mate id like to know what they are now lol :good:

ive just found them too black rosy barb my lfs had a delivery of them today

the larger ones are really beginning to show the red, smaller ones not so much.

Thanks everyone, always good to know what's in the tank.
