I bought 5 barbs yesterday 4 rosy and one which Im not sure of .Its silver with a black spot near its tail.I think it may be a cummings barb?
Its happily hanging around with the rosys but I notice that its nibbling a lot at the plants
Could anyone confirm if it is a cummings barb as Ive googled and cant find a picture of one?
Sorry,cant post a picture.
If it turns out to be a cummings then is plant eating one of its habits?

Many barbs will nibble at plants- usually not to the point of destroying them though. Cherry barbs are good nibblers for keeping plants "clean". Cummings barb should be compatable with most common plants, but have a need for some vegetation in the diet. Try suplimenting the diet with blanched cucumber, crushed peas, algea wafers or spinach leaves. Rosy barbs will even eat bananas. My females seem to enjoy them more than the males do.

Female Rosy Barbs are silver with a single black spot a little forward of the caudal peduncle. Poorly coloured or very young males are the same.

Cummings Barb has a second quite obvious black spot on the "shoulder".

As cyprinut has said, all barbs like some plant matter in their diet. Feeding a little extra veg will curb any plant eating tendencies. I am a planted tank keeper, but also a barb fan. They are quite compatible if understood.

Thanks for the very helpful information.
As its my first time keeping rosy barbs could you please tell me if I need to get a few more females as I now have 4 males and 2 females(2nd female was wrongly sold to me with my gold barb and is
in another tank at present)
Cheers
