in my 20 gal i have had a bamboo shrimp in there for around 3 weeks. there is also a rainbow shark, a 3 spot gourami, and 5 tiger barbs. last night i noticed lots of little white "things" clinging to it. they seemed to be moving around also. any idea what this could be? do i need to be concerened?

sounds like an ectoparasite to me.
can you get a better look at them?
are they just on the shrimp or are they in the substrate/on glass?
how often and how much do you feed your fish?

also it may help if you post your water stats including temp

its just on the shrimp. its been doing good.....when i got him it was a pale tanish color and now its deep maroon color with a off white stripe down the back and i read somewhere that this was good. temp is usually around 80 f. i know this is high but i keep it like that because in the summer it hits as high as 88 so this keeps it from fluctuating too much. i tested the water last night and allwas good except ammonia because i dont have a test for that yet and nitrate were around 40 but i kinda slacked off and didnt do my partial on the regular day that i do it on. i will do it tonite. if i get enough on tips tonite at work im going to get one of those master test kits. i feed my fish once a day....i give flakes, granuals, froze brine shrimp, blood worms, or freeze dried blood worms once a day to my gourami and TBs and about 10 min later i reach in and squirt blood worms or brine shrimp in to one of my sharks caves.....this alows my shark to get more food as my TBs are real fast on getting food and like once a week i drop in about 1/4 of an algea wafer. if it is ectoparasite will it hurt my shrimp and my fish?......oh i almost forgot....there is also one little ghost shrimp which i almost never see a live dwarf water lily, 1 java fern which as like 4-5 littles ones comming off, and some red lugwiga(SP) and around 20 or so pond snails.....i was trying to get them to breed but i guess the fish found and ate the egg sacs or what ever.

there dosn't seem to be any info out there regarding ectoparasites on shrimp.
I would treat this problem the same as I would for fish.

issolate the individual and treat with a good anti-parsite medication.
just be sure the one you use is safe for shrimp.

good luck
