Has anyone ever used bamboo canes in their tanks before because i was thinking about it the other day and thought that if alot was used then it could create quite a dinamic display and something fun for the fish too.... so could i do it or would they polute the tank
thanks

hey, someone somewhere here posted a link to a pic of a betta in a Zen type garden with dried bamboo poles in it as a feature....it was a fantastic looking tank and an idea that i fully intend to rip off one day.....he did specify that the bamboo canes were dried (ie not fresh/sappy), and i think he got them from a regular landscape or decorating store, not a lfs.

yes i would agree bamboo creates a stunning display for the tank however if u dont get the right sort and healthy bamboo then your tank could become polluted

bamboo is a very dangerous thing to be playing with if your not focused on the task

i would use the dried ones used for providing a support for outdoor plants
if you know what i mean
is that a type i can use ?

I think you can use the regular bamboo sticks that they sell at the florists. I will try to find a photo of that betta zen tank, it looks amazing

Got some of the fresh bamboo in my tanks without problem, however I did have it in a vase for a few months before it went in, the pieces are nicely rooted and just plunged into my gravel, no problems so far.

ok thanks l.michelle
after seeing the picture (if you can find it) i will either get some or not... i will poor boiling water over them first and give them a good wash just to be sure

Woooow! Everyone's tanks here are so beautiful, I almost don't want to post mine.
...
But I'll never learn anything that way! :D

Here is my first ever tank, a 10g "zen" tank before it had anything but decoration in it, I was a virgin aquascaper.

And here it is today after changing the gravel (went with something smaller) and doing some rearranging. Yes, I'm still new to this and all the plants are fake. I adore the look of planted tanks, but I'm notorious for killing my houseplants already. Also, no pretty bubble effect this time, as my new AD frogs have taken over the little dojo and I don't want to scare them. The little bamboo decoration was removed as well after I got my Betta, I was afraid he would catch his fins on it.

But... since he decided to try to make a snack out of my mystery snail, Darby has since gotten an aquarium all to himself. I didn't have room for much, so he's been transferred to a 3g Eclipse system in the bedroom. My fiance picked out the decoration, and the plant is one that was originally going to be in the 10g but didn't look right. However, it's a nice silk one, so it's perfect for him to rest on.

I wonder if I should put the bamboo decoration back in the 10g now that Darby has a place of his own. What do you all think?

There is one with bamboo, though not the particular one i am trying to find, i will keep searching though :good:

EDIT: Okay, I found the topic, however the photos are no longer working, but there's a video!! haha! okay Here is the topic, and This one is the video that shows the tank. I personally loooove this tank, you can probably contact fishkiller no more and I am sure they will help :D

If you do decide to use bamboo though, you have to promise to post photos!
