I know balas get big and so do clowns,
so i was wondering who has Balas, how many do you have in what size tank, and how long to they take to get adult size?.
:)

Hi,

Balas will reach around 14 inches long, so unless you have 300 litres+, i would choose something else.

Same applies to clown loaches. Theres really no point buying them with the intention of re-homing them when they get big, as you will find that the bigger they are, the more difficult it is to re-home them.

Cheers :good:

BTT

Both species are gregarious so should be kept in groups. Bala's in particular, are a very skittish fish and even in groups, are prone to suddenly take fright and dart across the tank. Bala's reckon on 350mm, CL, less but still big fish.

Bala's grow fairly steadily, CL's grow quickly to about 150mm then slow down. With both species, the last few mm take years.

I don't keep either as they grow too large.

i have 3 bala's and 4 clown's in a 400ltr tank (5 foot).
the clowns are all about 2 inches and the bala'a are between 8 inches and 6 inches. great fish but as mentioned before, they are very skittish.
mine all get along fine. i would like to add to the bala's but dont think it would be fair to add any more in the tank i have.
my clowns have doubled in size in about 4 months but the bala's are about 2 to 3 years old and seem quite slow growing!!
