I got a suggestion from one of my earlier posts saying that some male bettas dont build a bubble next till the end of the spawning. I put in my two bettas and they went at it real quick and almost devoured each other. Does that mean they arent good breeders? I was thinking about getting another male anyways to see what happens. Should i get a regular pet shop one, or should i go get a more expensive one that another person already knows breeds?

Thanks

you have to let the 2 fish next to each other to excite them. then release the male into the tank and he will flare and build a nest. you also need an anchor. in 24 hours let the female out

The breeding itself has nothing to do with the quality of betta. Breeding bettas takes PATIENCE and strategy. I really don't want to encourage you because I feel you're unprepared for the fry as it is and that you're just playing with the fish.

Leave the male in the breeding tank, give him a day or two and then add the female again.

I am not just playing with the fish. If you ever want to be a breeder you have to live and learn. Thats what I am doing. There is nothing wrong with that and you should know that being an experience betta breeder.

There is no way of knowing what to expect unless you try. And I do have enough room for the fry and just got a bigger tank for them to grow out if something happens.

That's good to hear, start saving jars now too :) And also start looking for homes :D

The reason I say "playing with them" is because you're breeding veiltails, right? That is just something I try to discourage because of the overflow of veiltails that are available. If you're going to breed, get some nice bettas, don't contribute to the "betta in a cup" market.

Do you have live cultures going already?

THey are being shipped as we speak from this one online site that this guy gave me from another betta forum.

Also I am trying veiltails now because if i try and breed a crown tail or double tail etc.... they are very pricey and I want to make sure that my reasearch goes along with what actually happens.

Thanks for understanding.

Woo makes me feel good i got my crowntail as my first breeding male :D

And K - im getting into breeding but im taking it slow - the fact that we could be looking after upto 200 betta in the next upcoming months - is pretty scary (hence why i wont be in the upcoming months!)

For my breeding im getting at least 1, 100 gallon tank which i can separate up using home made dividers for all my males and at least a 50g for all the females

Just think of the daily water changes with 200 jars!, feeding 200 jars,

Hence why im going for a big chain system - disease high risk factor but time saved keeping all to 1 tank with a hefty ass sump filter - winner plenty of time for disease treating and prevention

I also havent even got around to sorting out live food cultures yet - i will want to experiment with them before i get them so i know i can produce enough food in the right quantities :)

Alot to think about - but all the best

Hahaha its going to be quite a lot of work, but worth it all once you have bettas that you have raise personally. 1,000 gal. single tank? Where can you get those. I am just going to purchase more 10 gals. for fry and males, and then I am going to get another 55 with a dividers to separate certain females. And if everything goes the way its supposed to the jars will be i would say the most fun.

Although right now i want to try breeding these two then if it goes good I want to purchase crowntails or a more exotic breed.

I have tried breeding mollies and easy as that sounds i havent got a one haha.

Thanks
