We lost our fish after a gravel change last week and still have a bacteria bloom, the filter was unchanged and 50% of old water put back, we also have a large plastic cup of old gravel in there. How long before the cloudy water clears and I can re-stock ??

PS. Bacteria BLOOM, not Bllom !!

more fresh water I'm afraid and personally I wouldn't re-stock just yet but it's your decision in the end.

The only way to clear the water is to syphon it out, do a good gravel vac and put some fresh back. I've been through it with my old tank and it's a bind but there's no other thing for it but to keep changing water.

It also might be an idea to get rid of the plastic cup with the old substrate. It could be the cause. You have nothing to lose right now so you may aswell begin again from scratch - that's the way I see it anyway

Good luck
