Hey guys! I wanna set up a 150-200G pond in my backyard w/ a few koi. But, this last winter, it stayed below 10 degress F for over 3 months......and I dont know if I'll be able to get an indoor area for them. Is there any safe way to keep koi outside in, justr to be safe, -30f?

Koi can withstand quite low temperatures. The important part of the equation is how deep can they go.Water will form layers in regards to temperature.Frozen ponds are below zero at the top but the temperature increases as you go down.Alternatively and your best bet is get a pond heater.

id have to say for koi 450 UK gallons is minimum thats 6x4 @ 3ft deep ,they grow to a good size and even at the size pond above youd only be looking at housing around a 1/2 dozen ,are we talking below ground, raised ? ,a pond heater could be the way to go if temps dip to -30 with decent pumps etc the water may not freeze but i think it well may freeze @-30 regardless of water flow, have a think about size location etc, polly tunnels can be used to cover ponds over winter etc ,materials ,wooden surrounds will hold heat better than brick etc ,all things need to be considered
