Background Question

I have a background that I am using on the back of my 55gl and I really like it, but it's hard to see. I don't know if it's the lighting or what. I am using lights with a small blue tent...that's good to use with African Cichlids..(or so it said)
I noticed today that when the background is WET it shows up perfrect! What could I do to keep it showing up? Keeping it WET?
