People,
I don't know if anyone remembers my posting a few months ago about how I used CPR to resuscitate a 'dead' fish, but I can announce that I yesterday employed the same technique to Mr Wynt, with equally effective results.
Again, it sounds like the 'swim bladder' infection or whatever it was; Poor old Wynt floating on his side seemingly dead, Mr Kidd looking all forlorn and heartbroken at his pals demise. Now, Wynt is peeky and on his side, but looking a lot better and trying to swim around (albeit rather awkwardly).
Here's how to bring your fish back from oblivion:
1) Gently scoop the poor bugger out of the water, taking care not to damage fins or scales.
2) Hold said fish with it's head sticking out as far as its gills, preferably over a table or something in case the slimy geyser should fall.
3) Blow long frequent blast of air at its mouth, not too hard, but not too soft either. If it's mouth closes, gently squeeze at either side, just below the mouth to open it again.
4) Keep doing this 'til it starts gasping, at which point place it in a shallow quarantined bowl consisting of cold water and a few drops of that blue liquid stuff that prevent fungal diseases etc. (not Domestos).
5) If the gasping stops, or is intermittent, scoop him out and keep going. I've usually found at this point that the fish will regain some movement and attempt to flick its tail. Return your fish to the water and cover it up (leave a bit of space for air to get in), leave it for the day and go and do something constructive.
Voila! One alive fish! Well, I'll be back in a few months time, so Adios.
