Hi all
Don't often wander in here...
I have a smallish garden pond which has some golfish, ghosts and koi. A couple of years ago I threw in some 3-4 inch green tench and have not seen them since (which i expected). The pond is not ideally located (next to a copse) so I am often clearing huge amunts of leaves with a net. It's about 1 metre deep throughout and not planted. The bottom does get pretty bunged up but the fish are healthy.
Today I was netting off the bottom and managed to get a little wriggler. It looked sort of tench shaped but was mostly silver with red highlights when it wriggled. Threw it straight back in as I knew my camera battery was flat . Could it have been a tench? I wouldn't have thought mine could have grown big enough to have been breeding yet. And if it wasn't where did it come from???
Course now I'm worried about how many of the little fellas have landed up in the copse because I haven't been looking for anything under 6 inches in the net
