I wasn't trying to make babies in my tank, it just kind of happened and now I have a little baby. I have no idea how old it is. It's about as big around as a pen and it's shell is hard. It's able to go to the bottom of the tank and move around, then it goes up top for an oxygen exchange.
Right now it's kind of a brownish color. Is that it's color or will it change colors when it gets more mature?

snails vary a lot depending on what type they are... anyideas what it is that you have got?

It may just be a matter of time before you have hundreds of the little buggers

Doh! Forgot the most important part. :p

It's definately an Apple Snail.
I have 2 gold incas, 2 black mysteries, and one red one. It's in a 55 gallon tank that has never had any live plants and all the decore came off the PetSmart shelf and went through the dishwasher (no soap) so I know it can't be a stowaway...unless it stowed in last May on the shell of one of the others.

Apples are egg layers. They normally lay their eggs above the water line in big groups - (eg one snail would be very odd)

They need males and females to breed too - so they wont over populate your tank quickly (egg removal is easy if you need to)

I guess what i'm saying is that it probubly isn't an apple snail - the babies are the same colour as their parents... now i'm confused as to where it's come from!
