well one of the plattys gave birth last night, it was very stressfull for me if not the platty!!.
the other fish didn't help we lost quite a few that had no chance.
This morning there was about 10 dotted around the tank, we lost a few more but hopefully some are hiding. We made small piles of pebbles stuck together and some are in there,
Hi vanilla and congrats on your new fry i am also new to this fry lark but following all the excellent advice on this forum, when my platty was ready to give birth we set up a 7.5 gallon hexagon tank with heater and water from the main tank. We then kept her in a breeding net with some small plastic plants in the bottom for the fry to hide in and hey presto on easter sunday we had fry!!!! The fry are now over a week old and all 32 doing great, so i guess if you want to keep your fry i would set up a small bare bottomed tank and try to catch the ones that are left or leave it to nature and see who makes it
Anyway congrats and i know you will enjoy watching them grow "i am !!"
thanks!came down this morning and both platys are looking smaller, can't see any fry unless they are hiding!. If we have lost them all we know what to do next time, as i'm sure there will be one.
I will have to get a small tank ready, is it about 7 or 8 weeks until the next birth?? i am also very new to this fish keeping, we thought that we had all male fish, my 2 black mollies can't seem to leave each other alone, do you sex them the same as platys the only difference between them is their tails one has a pointy one and one squareish, they always seem to be dancing around.
