Hi all, I was just looking at my tank and noticed my two Kribs patrolling an area of water they have been very tempermental with the other fish lately. So they are standing guard over about 10 tiny babies. I was wondering if anyone could offer advice on keeping them alive? For now the mom and dad are hovering right above them not letting any fish get close. I assume I need a divider or something- Im totally new to fish keeping so this was a major surprise!! Until then should I turn the light out so they can hide until I can get something?? I dont know how long theyve been in there Ive been extremely busy at work this past week. Also when I cleaned the tank two weeks ago the Kribs were atacking the vacuum so I assume I may have sucked some up, or is 10 babys average?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! THanks

You might have sucked some up, but I've read that sometimes they have as few as ten'ish so,maybe not.
Mom and Dad should do a good enough job watching them, you won't want to disturb things too much. As long as you keep the rest of the fish well fed, they should be fine. To keep them alive- keep them fed and clean  Feed them infusoria, microworms, live bbs, crushed flake etc.

If anything, it might be easier for you to remove the other fish, but keep in mind that if the parents don't have anyone to protect the fry from-they could very well turn on each other. It's just their nature.

When my kribs spawned the mother packed up 50 someodd fry and moved to the other end of the tank, away from Dad. She kept everyone away,by herself, for the first four weeks or so. How big is your tank? What are the tankmates?

Its a 30 gallon, tank mates include 2 angels, 2 gouramis, 1 Chine algae eater, 3 tetras and 3 zebras. I am most worried about the CAE but when he is clinging on the that side of the tank the male Krib attacks him. thanks for the help- so I shouldnt go by a divider or a breeding cage (or whatever the thing is called that you put sick fish in so they cannot infect the other water) I have to go to class now Ill check later if you have any suggestions- thanks

Is there a heater for a 3 gallon tank?

That's a LOT of tankmates to fend off. You might want to look into a divider.

Definitely get a divider, if not a small tank for the fry. Angels will eat anything that fits in their mouth, fry are a real treat for them.
