Hi!

Today I spotted one really really tiny, almost impossible to see, little fish hiding in my plants.
I hadn't noticed that any of my fish had laid eggs, so i wasn't expecting babies!

Is there anything I can do to help care for this little fish, as i'm worried about the other fish eating it. Also worried about it being sucked into the filter..

Currently in my tank I have honey gouramis, white tip tetras, and blue 'mickey mouse' platys.
It looks like the new fish is a platy, but its really tiny so i might be mistaken.

Do all fish lay their eggs in bubble nests??
as I have a few clusters of bubbles around the top of the plants, resting on the surface of the water. Also, how quickly do eggs hatch?? as I only introduced my platys a week ago!

thanks!

gouramis lay eggs in bubble nest
tetras will lay on plants
platy give birth to living fish

It is most likely a platy :good:

ah thanks :)
Are platys likely to give birth to only one fish?? as I haven't spotted any others :-(

Platys are livebearers and will drop fry every month or so,there may be more hiding in your tank or they could well have been eaten.

The simplest way is to buy a floating breeding trap, these float on the top of the tank and you could keep the wee fry in there until its big enough to go back in without being eaten :)
