Over the weekend, i got a new addition to my tank - a baby EBJD. S/he can't be much bigger than 2 - 3".
My issue is that he (i don't know the sex, but am already bored of writing s/he) is being very shy. He hides amongst the leaves of an Amazon sword i have got attached to some bog wood. I don't think i have seen him in the 'open water' for more than 5 mins since i got him
I haven't seen him eat yet, but i have seen a bit of poo trailing behind, so im guessing he ate something!

Is it normal for juvi JD's to be this shy?
I do have a few too many dither fish that i will be looking to re-home - i might just have to do it a few weeks earlier than i had planned!

Edit:
I know its early days (got the fish Fri eve to be exact) and the young chap needs to settle in, but this just feels bit different

is nobody on this morning?

20 people have viewed it at last look but no-one replied. Im sure its nothing personal.

Never has one of these fellas but I guess check if hes eating - and if he is then there cant be much wrong with him. You may need to tempt eating with live or frozen foods for a while until hes confident enough to lap up flakes/pellets

Yeah i'll try some frozen tonight.

My issue is, i try to put food near him and he darts off to another corner. Then within seconds all the food is eaten by all the other greedy fish.
I might result to over feeding, andb then doing a vac and change 30 mins after to get rid of any left-over

I've found with other shy fish I have that it sometimes works to feed the rest of the fish in one area of the tank to kind of distract them, then put a little more food by the shy fish so he gets a good chance at a decent meal. I think he'll come around soon.

ive had my ebjd for a while now and he is still very shy. also james on here has an adult ebjd and he says its shy too so i would say its just how they are :good:

dither fish will help but just give the fish time to settle in and im sure he will be fine :good:

thanks guys.

Frozen food seemed to go straight past him again. I saw more poo but i wasn't sure if it was white. How white is not good and a sign of parasites? at least he must be eating something

Had a good clean out of the external today so the tank is looking nice and crystal clear so hopefully that will help too.

here are a couple of snaps for you. As you can see, he's got good colour, so i'm thinking more and more he's just a shy one!
