Refer to the pinned topic about breeding bettas in the betta section. I think that should answer all of your questions.

Here ya go: Betta Breeding

If you don't feel like reading it though I'll sum it up. When the father starts to get hungry you'll need to take him out so he doesn't eat the fry (it doesn't give a day, just watch for it). After you take the father out, you can feed the fry.

As for first water change, it's really up to you and your tank filtration and whatnot. It probably couldn't hurt to do it after a week...but as the topic about says, use air line tubing, you don't want to suck them up. And use a white or clear bucket when you siphon the water out because you still might suck some up (clear/white makes the fry easier to see so you don't miss any).

Hope this helps. B)

The first 2-3 days after hatching, the fry live off their egg sac. The larger fry will start feeding on the infusoria in the tank, as well as any small foods, like vinegar eels. After they are free swimming, the egg sac is being consumed, so they have to have food 2-3 days from hatching. Everyone is different, but this is the order of the foods I feed. Infusoria, Liquid Fry #1,Vinegar eels, Micro worms, BBS, frozen foods.

If you have live plants (and therefore infusoria) in the tank, then you don't need to worry about feeding them for at least a couple days after they become free swimming. If you don't have plants, then you'll want to give them some food such as microworms or vinegar eels once they are free swimming. I find the infusoria is better as my fry don't even go after the MW's and VE's for the first couple of days. Feeding prior to free swimming is a waste of food and will only spoil the tank since they eat their yoke sac they hatch with, and they can't manuever around anyway. Take Dad out when they become free swimming...sooner if you confirm he is eating the fry.

hi everyone

thanx for all the replys

i just wana say that im worried cause the male seems to leave the nest an sit by the plants alot and the nest seems to b gettin smaller

do u think that the eggs will b ok even if he leave the nest???

thanx

It's possible he's not tending to the nest and may even eat the eggs...if you confirm he isn't tending the nest and/or eating the eggs, you can remove him and the eggs should be fine. I currently have a spawn growing up that I had to take the Dad out the day after spawning because of this same reason but most of the eggs hatched and I had a large spawn. I still currently have well over 100 Juvis who are coming up on 3 months now, so definetly the Dad is not absoluetly necessary. It is preferred though since if he is a good dad, he will eat the bad eggs which keep fungus from getting to the good eggs, and he cleans the good eggs and does the same with the fry after they hatch. I just had a little bit more cleaning to do after they hatched, cleaning up the unhatched eggs, but the fry were fine, even the ones on the bottom of the tank who couldn't get up to the top right away.

They usually feed off their egg sack until its gone, then infusiora, then they start eating minni foods like microworms and that stuff :) my daddy didnt eat the fry or eggs but he left the bubblenest and fry alone after the hatched

Yes...Lol...it takes 1 to 2 days for them to hatch depending on temperature. Usually around 30-36 hours for mine that are usually at 82-85F.
