Okay, well, for those of you who followed my other topic (Betta Coccina at my LFS?), I went back and got them, and got a few pictures of them. They stink...but maybe a Betta expert can still identify them. :)

And on to the pictures!

"What's that big box thing?"

"A camera? It takes pictures, you say?"

And in the tank...this one I think is the male?

Mickey says "Say wha? Tiny red Bettas? No way, man!"

"Mom. I can't believe you are taking pictures of silly Mini Bettas when you could be looking at me! Sheesh!"

"Look at this! I have a gorgeous flare, nice fins, sweet face...the whole package!!"

"Gosh, I really am handsome, aren't I?"

And that's all. Any idea what the wild types are? :)

I agree, utterly adorable! I also have absolutely no clue what they are, as I only have kept betta splendens, and am aware of other varieties, but know little about them. Great find, though!

Annastasia, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you always find the coolest bettas! Your lfs must rule all

I'm going to say they are definitely coccina. Be sure and take 10,000 pictures as they settle in.

Lady - Thanks! They are cute, but the pictures really don't do them justice. The little faces are just TOO cute!

lljdma06 - Thank you too!

slamster17 - Thanks for the ID. I will try to make more pictures, they are currently exploring all the plants and checking out the frozen Bloodworms. In a few days, I'll try to take more pictures. They seem to have already colored up a little more. :D

wuvmybetta - Thanks so much! My LFS is really great...I'm spoiled. They had Halfmoon Plakats in the other day, and I reeeeeeally wanted one (REALLY wanted one) but my extra tank was taken up with a Betta I was keeping for someone, and when I went back today, they didn't have any. :-( I got a Delta though.

I do have another question though...they had some little teeny Wilds in too, that Slamster identified as Betta minniopinna or persephone....are they rare too(Well, I guess they are rare...but hard to find and get rare?)? Am I going to kick myself if I don't get a couple of those guys too? :p

You mean......?

 :look: :hyper:
Go,girl,goooooooo! (and get me some,too! :p )
Seriously though, if you have a tank available and you want a species tank I would definitely go grab some. I've never even seen them in person.

get in line kelly :p :p
anna based on the size i would say miniopinna, but what was the common name? if they had the common name right for the coccina then i would assume that it would be right for these guys too.

i dont think they are rare as in macrostoma rare they just like all the other wilds just arent commonly seen in most lfs'

Yep...he looked pretty much like that. Only he was reeeeeealllly tiny, so it's hard to tell. But I think it's that. :)

Meh....now I'll probably have to go get him too. I think there was only one, though. Would he be okay alone? Or would he need some buddies? They usually get new fish in every 2 weeks, so it'd probably be a while until I could get some more friends for him....

Now I want him too, because he was so freakin' cute.

Slamster - I think he was called Dwarf Betta, or Mini Betta or something? I don't know, too busy admiring his cuteness

i think your coccina looks a lot like mine. i'll take more pics later, because they've gotten darker reds, but these are my four:

i have 2 male 2 female (i'm pretty sure the lighter colored ones are the girls), but they can be kept all together. my four live in a 10 gallon

Annastasia I saw some of the Betta persephone myself the other day at a new shop that just opened. The guy is into killis and labyrinth fish. He had brought in 2 pairs for a guy who wanted them. He gave me a flashlight and said to look how black the male is with the blue and how blue his eyes were. :hyper: I was thinking to myself..my gosh imagine all the people on the forum who would die to have these guys. I felt like taking them home myself but they were already sold to another guy. I asked the guy before how many wild types he keeps and he says he has about 8 different types. I will have to ask what ones he has. I have seen imbellis and edithae in his shop and he has a small breeding tank set up with java moss and peat with a a couple pairs of these tiny red ones that I believe he said were coccina. I just have to get some smaller tanks and maybe I'll set up some individual species tanks myself.

I only have betta smaragdina myself. I was having troubles with them as I thought the female was beating up the male but I've since put them back together and they seem like they are in love  The male gets stunning when he displays to the female. Lately he has been going deep black/blue displaying to the female. I keep trying to take pictures but whenever I get the camera out he loses his colors and comes to the front begging for food  The female has been getting vertical stripes whenever he does this. So who knows maybe some baby smaragdina are on there way.

Thanks for the pictures, Supersixone. Mine look kind of like that, only the male (I'm guessing) is a lot darker red...and he's almost all red. I'm guessing they are Coccina though, because nothing else I've seen looks like them. :)

Elisabeth - Yes, I couldn't get over the blue eyes on the little guy! SO cute. I'm really tempted to go back, but I'm going to the beach in a few days, and I just want to see how I do with the Coccina first. Maybe if they do well, I'll set up another small tank and get a few of the little guys.

As an update though, this morning, the Coccina have really colored up, and they are out and about a lot. I can't tell if they have eaten, so maybe this morning we will try Brine Shrimp... :D

mine have since colored up too...the males are now a deep burgundy wine-red type color, and the girls aren't far behind. their little eyes glow like gems! i'll take more pics after my camera battery recharges

I am so incredibly jealous I just might explode.
