I have one running in a male plakats tank and I like it. It even has flow control. The filter inserts are super easy to replace. The tank if have it in is a 5 gallon and it does a good job. So good in fact that I have ordered 2 more for my 2 1/2 gallon tanks. The filter inserts are inexpensive also. I have been running it for about a month and so far it is very quiet to. The only problem I had was that with my acrlyic tank the inside of the lip around the top of the tank was to wide and the filter wouldn't sit all the way down on it. I just removed the lip of the rim in that section and it sits fine now.

Cool!! Thanks for the product review. :D I was wondering if it had a flow control.

I know Petco carries the little candy betta aquariums with the light and this particularly filter. But I need to ask them if they every plan to stock just the filter by itself.

I've a couple of other lfs I need to check out though.

Petsmart sells these really cheap 1 gallon glass aquariums...just the tank and nothing else. I think it'd be cool to get one of those (or one bigger) and then add the palm filter and other stuff on my own...either for a betta or African Dwarf frog.

That's cool that you have a plakat. I wish I could find more varieties here besides the splendens....particularly the imbellis.

I emailed Petco inquiring as to whether or not they'd be carrying this filter separately and I got this reponse:

Thank you for contacting PETCO! AZOO is distributed in the US by a company called "Red Sea" or "Aquaculture Technologies". Under this label, the filter is called the "Nano-filter" and should be in PETCO by Christmas. Please feel free to ask any associate in the store for more information!

Thank you for inquiring about this product; it's only through feedback like this that we can serve our most loyal customers like you!
