Hello! So my Dad and I were thinking about getting a 20 Gallon Tank to replace our 5 Gallon one that we have currently! Would a 20 gallon fit a axolotl? Would u need more than one at a time? And can u have regular fish with the axolotl in the same tank at the same time!!

A 20 gallon long might be ok for a small axo but they can grow to a foot long so do better in bigger tanks.

Sand is the best substrate for Axolotls

No you can't keep fish with them because the fish eat the Axolotl's gills, or the Axolotls eat the fish.

You can keep them on their own, in pairs, or in groups but you need a much bigger tank if you plan on keeping more than one.

I agree that only one axolotl be kept in a 20 gallon. Although people often keep them together, I find that they really do better individually. They tend to nip at each other.
If you must keep fish with an axolotl, I recommend White Cloud Mountain minnows. They are more of a cool water fish, and they are reasonably good at avoiding the axolotl. They are sure to be eaten eventually, but they should last longer than most other fish.
