I have two 10 gallon axolotl tanks joined by a water bridge. I put a trio of extra mollies in the tank to hopefully "show the way" - the fish have figured out how to go back and forth but the axolotls haven't discovered the bridge yet. Nor have they managed to catch the mollies so for now it is a peaceful existence, even though temporary as the mollies are going back to the live-bearer tank.

I really can't recommend putting axolotls with fish. The axolotls may not have eaten any of the mollies yet but they will. For the first few months of an axolotl's life, they eat by snapping at anything that passes their mouths. You can put as many pellets in there as you want, if it doesn't move, they simply starve. Even long into adulthood, this in-built snapping reflex still exists. In the meantime, the mollies may nibble on the axolotls' gills. My advice would be to get the mollies out asap. As far as the bridge is concerned, since axolotls tend to stay on the bottom of the tank the majority of the time, they are unlikely to use it. You can try to encourage them by covering it over with a towel. They may be more inclined to explore if it's dark :)
If I'm honest, a beautiful setup like that with the bridge is wasted on axolotls. I'd make the most of this one and get a few more mollies and/or guppies, and get a 20 gal for your axolotls, cos you can never have too many tanks ;)
Btw, what sand are you using? It looks amazing!

As I stated in my original - - the mollies were temporary and I was moving them out. They were in the tank for a whole 36 hours. I knew there was a possibility of them being munched but I feed my surplus juveniles as treats.

I have numerous other tanks between goldfish, african clawed frogs, guppies, mollies and bettas, but this is what I wanted to experiment with for my young axies.

The axolotls are feed primarily earthworms.

I understand most would prefer this to be used for pretty little fish, but it was something I wanted to experiment with as I had the bureau space and the extra 10 gallon tanks.

As for the sand, it is just standard Marina sand bought at my local pet store.

Love it. Take pictures if they use it!
