I do not have a Lloyds TSB bank account.

I get these all the time, if a bank wants to contact you then they'll send you a letter...not an email. You can tell if a link is bogus or not by hovering over it and viewing the actual link in the bottom left of the screen, most use cover up links to lure you in.

Anyone that clicks them is an idiot.

I wouldn't actually call someone who clicked it an idiot.
I think with the world we live in coupled with the economic climate the most of the world have their finances at the front of their brain.

I was just discussing this with my girlfriend and I'm sure there are so many people conned like this, especially those who are new to online banking. We do not use internet banking, anything we need we can do at the bank in question.

I've actually had a card cancelled whilst in Spain on holiday as I took out £500 in one go. They called me by phone and said it was cancelled as someone had withdrew money in another country.
When I informed them it was me they stated that I should have informed them that I was going on holiday. The cheek of it.
So all bank things are not just by letter and can quite easilly see how people can and will be tricked.

Most email providers give you a 'mark as phishing scam' or something similar; that means the site can be shut down to protect the more stupid amongst us ;)

I went to one once, just to have a look (I was on a computer in the library :$) and it did look exactly like the real bank's site, except I don't think the Halifax would have a www.somethingmadeup/blogspot.com website addy, lol, and none of the clickables worked.

i work for a bank...

they wont email you!!

these are all trying to copy a cleaver scam from a few years ago. one guy managed to do an exact copy of one of the big banks internet banking web pages. this site was exactly the same bar one letter in the address.
the forms on the site asked for internet banking details and security number like normal, but instead of 3 didgits of the security number all of them. the people that fell ofr it and entered their details were automatically redirected to their accounts and would never guess anything was wrong. then a big bill payment would leave their account a day or two later.

never open bank emails and never enter or give over the phone more than 3 digits of any security numbers

I get these from banks, ebay and paypal and i dont have any of them
laugh.gif

they are always in my junk folder and deleted

I do always tell my bank when I go on holiday because of this, at the end of the day they are only looking out for you if your card is being used abroad

I for one am most glad that banks do this! I tried to use my card the other day, and it was rejected by the cash machine. I came home to find a message on my answerphone from my bank's fraud department, I called them back (Obviously I checked the number was correct by looking at my bank statement, before just calling any number and handing over details!) and found out that they had canceled my card due to a transaction taking place on the internet, from Spain! I wasn't on holiday at the time, and am very glad that the bank doesn't just assume that I am when my card gets used in another country!

And yeah, I'm always getting these emails from natwest, I've never held an account with netwest. I don't even open them!
