"The ATC 300 works by monitoring the tanks temperature independantly and will switch off your heater directly if the tank temperature goes above your pre set value enabling you to have complete control over your heaters function. Whats more the unit is design to fail safe and comes with failure alarm and also over heating alarm if your tank does reach its pre set heat value
With the built in timer function you can also run pumps fans or many other devises to come on and off at set intervals i.e 1 hour on, 2 hours off etc."
the above was taken from the net. this temp controller is pretty much as new, its been used for about a week at the most. it can be used to control non thermostatic heaters or used as a back up safety device for existing heaters with thermostats. it basically will shut off the heater once its reached a set temp so if the heaters thermostat fails instead of boiling your fish the ATC300 will shut down the faulty heater saving your livestock. it has an LCD display of the water temp taken from a small probe that sits in the tank. the heater plugs into the twin socket on the ATC300 and works as normal. the 2nd socket can be used as a timer which is programable using the main unit itself. if the tank temp reaches the max limit then it will sound an alarm, this also sounds if the temp gets too low.
i only removed it because i was using titanium heaters that didnt have built in thermostats. i then bought my rays which werent compatable with this kind of heater due to potential burns and its sat in the box since. a great back up safety device for your heaters or an excellent temp controller for non thermostat heaters.
looking for £20 for it, still boxed with instructions etc etc etc.
