Hi everyone,
I've been having trouble with my Bettas ever since I received them by mail in August. My light blue guy shipped to me with tattered fins and I have been desperately trying to cure them with no avail. Now he's had these white spots pop up on him, with the biggest one having red dots, so maybe inflamed. Behaviour wise he's eating, making bubble nests, and is generally energetic.
My other Betta is a different story, he was fine for months but in November he started becoming very lethargic and losing his colour. He continuously rests on the substrate of the aquarium on his side, unmoving except to dart up and gulp the top of the water. Sometimes it looks like he's breathing heavy but I'm not sure, he also may be old as he has vision problems and does not make bubble nests. At first I thought there wasn't enough oxygen in the water, as it is very hot where I live, so I added a bubbler to the sponge filter, still nothing. I'm starting to think he is depressed, and I have been moving items around the tank, adding new items, adding plants and a snail, but he still hasn't improved. He's started to lose interest in food.
Here's an album with photos/videos of both of them:
I've been treating both Bettas for a month with aquarium salt, Indian almond leaves, Blue Planet Multicure, Blue Planet Tri Sulfa, and nothing is working. I also perform 50% water changes and administer this medication every 3-4 days. Food includes betta pellets (10 a day) or bloodworms, as well as fasting one day a week.
Water parameters:
0 ppm ammonia
0 ppm nitrate
3 ppm nitrate
7.8 pH
30 degrees Celsius water temp
Tank sizes: 5 gallons
I've posted to other forums many times to no avail for these problems, and it's been so frustrating as I just have no idea what to do for these guys anymore and I feel so awful because I just have been trying my best to treat them and they have been getting worser every day.
Thank you.
