"Why Utah?!"
At least I have fry. VT (female) x PK (male) hybrids. I am sooooo excited. I have homes lined up for them all already, plus I’m keeping and breeding whatever I see fit, so that I can get some PK fry this time. Yay!

Anyway, I’m feeding them the Wardly Small Fry food, and I’m worried because I don’t see them eating it at all, they just sit there at the surface and don’t seem to be eating it, even when it’s dropped right on top of them.

Congrats Styx!

Have you tried feeding them any live food such as microworms? My first batch of frys are a week old today! I'm feeding them microworms, and I did buy some Nutrafin Basix staple food for fry. I haven't used the Nutrafin basix just yet, will probably start using them tonight or tomorrow.

Mine are eating micrworms. The Wardley food is a liquid type? If it's powder or liquid type, it should be ok, but just make sure you don't put too much to pollute the water. As long as the food can fit in their tiny little mouths. I also bought some OSI Micro-Food (fine powder like containing eggs, fish meal, etc.) I only used a bit of that.

Good luck with your fry. I think microworms would be best if they are that young.

Congratulations!!! :hyper: :hyper:

I felt exactly like you two weeks ago when I came home and found discus fry attached the adult male!! It's such a wonderful sight!!

Well done and good luck with them!!

Betta fry need live food. Hope you can get your hands on some vinigar eels or MW soon, or your fry may be in big trouble.

Aznmidnite - Mine'll be a week old tomorrow! They were born on the first. :3 And no, I've called every single store in the valley and no place has microworms.

No place has the eels either. I have a BBS hatery going though... but that's the only stuff I have.

Also, what about First Bites? Will they eat that? If so, when should I start feeding it to them?

Mine were a week old this past Saturday!

I'm going to start feeding mine some Nutrafin Basix food for Fry this week, along with the usual microworms, and some OSI Micro-Food. The OSI Micro-Food I have is a powerder that you have to mix with some tank water, then disperse throughout the tank. This usually hangs near the upper portion of the tank where some of my fry that hang out.

I do have fry that are hanging around the bottom looking for microworms though, so at least they are eating.

OSI Micro-Food is similar to the Wardley Small Fry food you said you are using, except I believe yours is in liquid form already. Are you still using that, since you don't have microworms?

Hopefully you can start feeding them some live baby brine shrimp real soon.

Yeah, it’s liquid and I’m still using that. I see them eating once in a while now, so I’m thinking they’re okay. After I run out of the small fry, I’ll start feeding them the BBS and the First Bites.

Wuv, here's a thread about the babies discussed in Styx's other thread....

Gotcha.

Well Styx, you've answered your own question. They really, really won't eat unless it's right in their face and wiggling. How's the bbs coming along?

I'm close by in wyo and I can send you a vinegar eel starter, but it takes two months before you can harvest them  maybe for your next spawn...I'll agree though, they need some bbs at this point.

Sorrell - I would love that. You know what irked me even more today? I called every pet store in the phone book and not a one even sells live BBS! WTF?!?! *Stabs Utah* I did pick up some frozen BBS,hoping they would eat that until these bloody little eggs hatch. *Shakes fist at shrimpery* Haaatch!

You won't find a lfs on the planet that sells live bbs.
How long has your hatchery been running?
