After a little cock up by myself with the first batch ( i moved them too early and they got eaten :( ) they have spawned again!

I have done it right this time, as i chose to breed them so i changed the gravel for a sand substrate of about 10cm. Fed them uip on blood worm and pellets and boom ! 109 eggs :) :) :) :)

i have moved the parents already ( the morning i woke up and saw the eggs) and there is currently a mini power filter in there to make sure water flows over the eggs. This will however be removed when they hatch. i also have( thanks to joby) a micro worm culture on the go, so all i gotta now is sit and wait !

will keep you all updated. This is only day 2 :)

right, they have all hatched as of today. I turned the internal filter off yesterday when i saw the first one being swirlled around like a piece of fish poo !!

SO, can someone please remind when they need their first feed. Is it about 3 days after hatching that they use up the yolk sac?

hi sp00ky,congrats on the eggs & fry!they use up there egg sacks in about 3/4 days so start feeding then (its pretty easy to see when the egg sacks have gone).hope you've got an air stone in there with them and dont forget the daily water changes.

out of curiosity, how old were your other fry when you put them in with the adults?my pepper fry are about 11 weeks now and are still in a tank on there own.gona put them in with the adults in the next week or so tho.

anyway, good luck with the fry & let us know how it all goes!!

shaz :)

yep, theres an airstone in there. i also have the luxury of having a fully working filter in there. its only a small tank but it has a built in filter in the hood :) !! works a treat hehehehe

the other fry were about 3 weeks old and i moved them into my nursery tank. I didnt put them back in with the adults.... they were in with molly and guppy fry. but i was guilty of their murder :( so i aint making the same mistake again !! they wont be moved now until they are AT LEAST 1/2 inch long :)

awwwwww Sp00ky,dont be hard on yourself,we all make mistakes!my fry are all way over half an inch long now (some are bout an inch) so atleast youv got an approx idea of how long theyv gota be kept on there own for.

its horrid to think that other babys will attack the cory babies aint it!mind you,i suppose they just see them as food cus there sooooo tiny.

just remember to remove the uneaten microworms (think they live for about 24 hours in the water).youl find them in a big clump on the bottom.

goodluck this time round!!!!!!!!

shaz :)
