My betta, Betta, is an unhappy fish today. He was fine and normal on Wednesday, eating appropriately, swimming around, etc. On Thursday morning, he ate very little, and when I arrived home Thursday night, he was hiding in the plants, and wouldn't eat at all. The water seemed a tad too warm, so I turned down the heater to 76-78.

I tested my pH and ammonia levels, which we're 7.6 and 0 respectively. I added a little Quick Cure to the tank and went to sleep. Yesterday morning, Betta is staying at the bottom of the tank, and clamping his fins. I'm thinking not good.

I moved him to a smaller container with fresh water (which has aquarium salt and de-chlorinator added), added some Quick Cure and am now waiting. Added more Quick Cure this AM, and he is still hanging out at the bottom, coming to the top for air. He's lost a bit of color, but otherwise I can see no signs of parasites or ick, etc. And he's not eating.

Any additional thoughts on what I can do besides worry and wait?

Sounds like something internal. Keep him in super clean water (change it daily), add some salt (I add 1-2 tsp per gallon, the higher amount for serious sickness) and if you can get BettaMax, that would be good to add too.

Thanks Linda,

The water he is in now has 1 tsp per gallon, but I'll add another tsp to the pre-made water I have.

My fingers are crossed!

Bumping this up as my little fellow still appears under the weather.

I been doing daily water changes, and I bumped the salt level in the water to 2 tsp per gallon. I also added a couple drops of QuickCure. Was lucky to find BettaMax on Sunday and made a tonic as suggested on the package since I currently alternating him between bowls. With today's water change, he received a dose of BettaMax (1 part BM to 2 parts water). All water has been treated to remove chlorine, and has "cured" for a couple of days.

He's not clamping his pectoral fins as much as before, but his dorsal fin is very limp, if you will. His jaw and the area around his gill slits has turned white. Not eating, nor blowing bubbles (I know, you try to build a bubble nest when you're feeling ill!). Surfaces for air, and swims around a bit if I walk into the room.

I've been treating him since Friday, so I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from him. So my question to those more wise than I -- have I done everything possible?
