I had two assassin snails, then bought four more for my 65l tank. At the beginning of January I closed the tank down and moved the two live snails over to a 15l tank where they are much more visible and making their way through the pest snails in there.
However, sadly four were empty shells and I thought they were too pretty to get rid of so I stuck them in my QT tank with a piece of wood from the closed down tank and some baby platies.
That was about six weeks ago.
At the weekend I noticed that my larger angel had something wrong with her fin so moved the platies to the big tank, popped the angel in my QT and wacked up the temperature.
Today I noticed at least four baby assassin snails! How on earth has this happened??? I was really hoping to get them to breed but never managed it before, and now here they are in the tank which I'm medicating!
Is it possible that the eggs have lain dormant for weeks waiting for the temperature to rise, I literally can't think of another way this could have happened...
