Hi,

Will Assassin snails eat Galaxy Rasbora eggs?

I have a small snail issue and I'd like to get a couple of assassins to help but only if they won't reduce the chances of my Galaxy Rasboras breeding.

Thanks.

They probably will, as will regular snails, being general scavengers at times.

However, they will more likely just go for the other snails, and would be a good addition IMO :good:.

Thanks for the reply. I did reply to this thread yesterday but it hasn't appeared on the site??

Perhaps I'm being naive but I may have this sorted! - I finally managed to squish the 5 offenders when they all gathered on the same bit of wood(!). Hopefully they won't have bred as they were still only 1-2mm.

I'll definitely get a couple of Assassins if (when??) they come back.

On the downside I want to add some new plants and my 2 favourite local shops' plants are covered in snails! Hmmm.....

It's not really a downside, unless you have a phobia of snails you should consider them beneficial to the aquarium :good:. All they do is eat waste food, decaying organic matter and algae. Every snail you see is just that much less waste lying around in the tank. They dont eat healthy live plants, if you get overrun by snails, it's just because the tank has too much waste lying around, but the snails themselves do no harm.

I suppose that is a more positive and rational point of view :) I suppose I should be a bit more tollerant.

No phobia, I just didn't like the idea of someone living in my tank without an invitation I suppose!

Anyway, looks like my optimism about getting rid of them was naive after all as I did see another one this morning.

Cheers.
