Hi all. I just bought a 55 gallon tank and all of the pet keeping supplies the seller had. Among them is a Heater. It says Thermal Compact 25 watt Askoll (made in Italy)

It has a power cord and one thin knob? that I can't turn or press. How do I adjust this thing? And is it worth using? I've never heard of Askoll, but I haven't heard of many companies.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry the pic isn't ideal. I'll try and get a better one if anyone thinks it would help.

25 watts isn't much of a heater and it sounds like it may be defective. Just go to a lfs and buy a nice submersible heater rated for your tank size.

A 25 watt heater isn't enough for a 55 gallon tank. Minimum reqired is 3 watts per gallon (preferable 5 wpg) so you need a heater with at least 165 watts. I don't know what filter you got but minimum on filters is one that is rated 5 times (more is better though) the tank size. So you need a filter rated at least 275 gph.

Thank you, and thanks for your reply to my other question too. :D

The heater wouldn't be for the 55, I thought I might use it for a quarantine tank or something like that. I just don't know how to use the darned thing.

I have this exact problem right now with this heater. I'd like to turn the temp up as it's too low and the knob is a little different and there's no thermostat on it like my other that's not an automatic. I thought maybe you just held it right a bit to increase and left to decrease but there wasn't any temp change so I don't understand. Maybe someone could give a decent answer or advice rather than spending more cash on a new one... Also it's only in a small 10gal aquarium so don't even go there... plz lol :)
