:S okay this question is somewhat lengthy so in advance i do apologise for this and that it is multi-forum based. Recently i managed to fill a really annoying space that NOTHING would fit in by filling it with a tank that is 29and three quarter inces long (yeah sad innit?) 18 wide and 16 deep. I plan to decorate with large amounts of mopani wood, anubis and gravel. I would like to know whether it would be a good idea to keep three arulius barbs in here. Also on this point what is thier actual adult size and optimum diet? I would like to keep one or two severums here with some peckolitas (taparus) a small synodontis such as a featherfin and maybe one/two butterflies and possibly a polly Delhezi or a polly weeksii? is this possible?

Your tank holds roughly 34 US Gallons. Typically, the advice would be 1" per gallon maximum, in your case, your surface area is a little more then a regular rectangular tank, so 34" of fish is a good figure.

Barbus arulius grows to about 4"/100mm in a tank. Nice fish, easy to keep, eats just about anything, flakes, frozen bloodworm, etc., a general varied diet. They do like crushed peas!

Peas? take it i will have to boil and shell them first then? Funny i didnt think that peas were suitable, i onlytend to feed cucumber or blanched lettuce as dietary substitute

Most barbs, (and other veggie fish), love peas. You take them out of the shell, large barbs then take then as they come, smaller ones prefer lightly boiled, (not so soft that they disappear into a green cloud). A highly nutritious snack they are too.

I often advise people with fish that "won't eat" to try peas.
