ive had an idea but not sure if it would work, hence the thread.

2ft x 1ft x 1ft and a bit tank---> 60 litres or 13.2 uk gallons.

could it be possible to use both gravel and sand? what i mean is gravel at the back of the tank and sand at the front? would my near future pleco's wreck the sand? im thinking 2 of either..... Flash Pleco, L204- 5.2" , Queen Arabesque Pleco L260, Pitbull Plec LDA25 - 2"( maybe more than 2 of these ) or 2 Butterfly Pleco, Flounder Pleco, L168- 5.6"

also will black neon tetras nip there fins?

im buying a nice big peice of slate that i can cut down alot and build some cave systems at the back of the tank and 2 small bits of bog wood for them so they can have a territory each near the front :)

any ideas are welcome

My mate has a plec in a sand only tank & he is forever flattening the sand dunes it makes!! i think you would end up with a sandy/gravely mix.

ive had plecs with sand and gravel before now,, they move it about a bit but it only gives a more natural look anyway.. try it :)

im in 2 minds whether to or not to do it. i thought about just having sand as it looks rather nice and i dont think mixing them in the long run would look attractive to the eye? ive read sand is easier to keep clean as the pleco's and three lined corys i want will sift thruough it and keep it reasonably clean :good:

my 8in L001 plec has completely relandscaped my sand and gravel tank, swirling up sand everywhere with his tail.Everytihing is buried in sand now-gravel, fake plants, wood.

i might leave the sand idea until im seasoned in the aquarium hobby.ive seen many tanks with sand as the substrate and it does look very nice indeed. for the moment, just getting to grips with the water tests and water changes are enough for now.i feel if i added sand into the mix i would overwhelm myself in tasks and start forgetting, or get lazy. so for the interest of my fishes, i will steer clear for now :good:
