I have been searching the web for an idea I have. Does anyone make full artificial, fake reef backdrops that can be inserted into a freshwater aquarium?? To make myself clearer, I mean an exact artificial replica of a saltwater reef system using fake everything. The only site I came upon was livingcolor.com, and they make it, and sell it for about $3,800!

I think if someone invented such a product, it would be a major, major money-making success if reasonably priced. Nothing else would be needed to be bought for decorating the tank etc. and they could come in different tank sizes.

Could you let me know if you have heard of such a product? Also, what do you think of the idea. Thanks!

Yuck! Just my opinion, but I could never have something so fake in my tank. No matter what, it probably wont look real, and would be confusing. Freshwater fish = freshwater tank, salties in salt. Just start saving up and researching for a saltwater tank!

But, if you really want some fake corals:

It's not a backdrop, but whatever.

Nothing novel in that idea... it goes well with first timers, but most folks don't like it for the home.

:D

What if they made disguises for fish, Barbs = Blue Hippo Tangs...

Never mind

I don't know about the reef decor, but you sure gave me ideas for creating large groupings of rocks and driftwood, siliconed together for my large tanks! I use some fake plants because of low light and I typically silicone the plants to rocks to make it easier for me to bury the 'roots'. I can just drop them in, looks better than those plastic anchors that come with fake plants :D

It would look awful in my opinion, just think it might look something like a reef tank to begin with, but then you add the fresh water fish and it looks wierd. Then you'll get some green algae growing on it and it will look even worse!

exactly what I was thinking... green algea on white plastic coral..
