how big do they get, how long do they live? what do they eat? tank size? tank conditions? ligthing. thanks....

They eat fish......any fish that ,they consider food, they will eat. I fed my arrowana whitebait.(frozen....but thawed)......as said in chit chat...........size depends on which type you are refering to. And where do you live?

Actually though they certainly do and will eat fish it is actually not a very good diet for them and fish should only be fed sparingly once or twice a week, for a healthier arowana the diet should be mainly made up of insects and floating pellets specificly designed with arowana's in mind, too much fatty foods in their diet can lead to fatty deposits in the back of the head causing spoon head (where there is a visable hump behind the head giving the arowana the appearence of having a spoon shaped head) and droopy eye (where the fatty deposits push behind the eyes and cause them to "droop" downwards).

The smallest species of arowana are the Scleropages arowana's (jardini, leichardtii and formosus) from Australia and Asia with a maximum adult size of around 36 inches but these can be very aggressive and should be kept alone or with very tough tankmates that dont mind being beaten up a little. Silver arowana's and black arowana's are both are reported to reach 4 feet in the wild and 36 inch silvers are not that uncommon in captivity, blacks however seldom reach more than 24" in captivity and grow at a much slower pace. Like most large fish you can expect a healthy arowana to live 15 to 20 years.

The minimum tanksize you should have before considering any arowana is a 180g (6x2x2') and you should have plans to upgrade to a tank with a 30 to 36 inch width (front to back measurement) by the time the fish is 24" long, a 8x3x2' (LxWxH) is prefferable for keeping any arowana over 24". The tank should have the entire surface area clear and have a gentle current flowing from one end of the tank, water parameters arent that important, lights should be fairly dim as arowana's are predominantly surface dwellers and bright lighting will hurt their eyes.
