Not had it long ,got it from a mate,it doesn't seem to swim about much its about 10inches now.
Does it need a tonic?

More information needed before any real help can be given. What size tank is it in, what tankmates if any, what food is being given, what are the water parameters?

BTW arowanas arent catfish.

I'm in work so I have to keep coming back.

Its in a 2ft tank includes
1 silver arowana
medium shovelnose
1 Channa gachua

picking up a small arowana to go in there as well on thursday.

a 2ft tank is no way big enough, most shops don't even hold arowanas in tanks that small! how do you expect a 10inch fish to be active in a 2ft tank!!

unless you have done a typo or have a much bigger tank on the cycle you should give up most of those fish immediatly, i don't knwo the detials of a Channa gachua.

this is the harse truth i'm afraid!!

Its ok kid the arowana only 10 inches its still got 12 inches to spare plenty room

Your tank isnt big enough to house even one of those fish!!

Arowanas need a minimum of a 6 foot tank and even that is considered small, at 10 inches long your arowana should be in nothing less than a 75g tank (48x18x18"). You do realise that silver arowanas can grow to 4 feet long dont you? Arowanas are solitary fish that will fight until one is dead when kept in pairs, some people have has success in keeping arowanas together by housing at least 5 in tanks of around 5 or 6 hundred gallons.

Depending on the species your shovelnose will grow to at least a foot and again should be in nothing less than a 75 gallon tank, the only fish you have that is close to being suitable is the snakehead which should max out at around 8 inches but that really needs a 30 gallon tank (36x12x15").

Whoever sold you these fish should be ashamed of themselves and IMO the store needs closing down. You really need to take all your fish back to the store and exchange them for some smaller fish or buy a much bigger tank.

Doesn't look like my 3ft tank will be any good then, are you sure about this ?

You do know about Arowanas or is it something you read?

Both, i have a 18 inch Jardini arowana which is the smallest of the arowana species and have seen many silver arowanas that have been returned once they are over 2 feet, the largest one i have personally seen was 39 inches from nose to tail.
I also have 3 lima shovelnose catfish with the largest being 14 inches, the largest i have personally seen was 18 inches. If your shovelnose is a tiger shovelnose than it will grow to 3 feet or more. These fish along with the arowana are housed in a 205 gallon tank.
I also have a breeding pair of Channa gachua which are both around 8 inches and are housed in a 30 inch tank.

You certainly know about oddballs.

So what your saying is my tanks to small?

Yes im afraid your tank is too small for any of the fish you have :(

Sorry, if I seem illiterate...but what are you going on about now? Sorry if I came across as harsh, but by the way your smilie was, I thought you didn't care that you had to get rid of your fish...

Sorry if I offended you...

:( Never mean to do anything like that... :-(

Anyway, what did the above mean, and BTW, you might be abe to get a Rainbow Shark or a Red Tailed Blak sharf or something... :dunno:

I want something BIG though any suggestions, sure a litle arowana would be ok.
