Hi I just got a pair of BABY arowanas from the pet store because it seem like a pretty good deal. Im new to this and something went WRONG! They keep attacking each other!!! I AM VERY VERY NEW TO THIS STUFF and to this site. :D

- They were both from the same tank when i got them and the tank they were in were about 10 gallons of water.

- They should be brother or sisters cause there were about 10 in the tank.

- My tank has EVERYTHING from the tank i got them from.

- My tank has that ABOUT the same stats of the tank they were from.

WHATS the problem???!!!
Please comment and give tips on how to resolve this.

You should try Oddballs Institute. They'll help you. I can tell you now that you have some problems with those Arowana seeing that thye need a massive tank as adults and are quite territorial. Hope you find what you need.

They weren't fighting at the LFS because the aggression was spread out between the majority of them. Now that you have only two in a tank, they will begin fighting for dominance.

A single arowana needs a minimum of a 6'x2'x2' tank if I'm not mistaken, and two would need a much larger tank than that ;)

 Hi there. I am sorry to inform you that I also made this tragic MISTAKE. I had to do alot of fast research and found that they will never get along unless they have paired up together to breed. They will fight to the death!!! This is because they are verry territorial fish, they can however be kept in schools or in otherwords groups of six or more. Ihave a 180 gal. tank and this problem arrose the same day of arrival. There is soooo verry much stuff that need to be done for this fish to even live a healthy life,Word of advise (research, research). Sincerely..RayMann at andersonbyers@netscape.com

arrg. arrowanas in a ten gallon. are you crazy. try a 180 gallon tank for one, forget two and the attacking is from under tank size.  :grr:

Agreed with most of what is said.

A pair of aros is suicide. Aro comms do work, but you need at least 5 aros to distribute the aggression and a HUGE tank.

Silver need more than a 6 X 2 X 2, they can easily hit 3 feet and a 2 foot wide tank is a little cramped.

Asians or australians can be kept singly in a 180g though.

Your aro will outgrow your 10g in say.... a < 6 months.

How do you resolve this? Get rid of one aro and get a much larger tank

how bout this get rid of both of them!!! bring em back. It takes a pro to take care of an arro. let a lone two. stick to hampsters.

TWO ARWOANNAS IN A TEN GALLON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhh. thats torture, best return them to your lfs. Its ok everone makes mistakes. You will learn.

Are you going to take your own advise and take the one in your 38g back as well or do you have a 300 gallon tank waiting to move it into?

Apologies for slightly off subject here:

When we last visited a fish store in Colchester, they had about twenty silver aros in a 20 gallon tank, they were so young that some still had the yolk sac attatched to their umbilicus!

There was no indication on the tank that these little cuties would become monsters.

It makes me so sad.

haha very funny CFC but the thing is 5 inches and has a 125 gallon tank awaiting him, so ask questions before you make a comment like that
