Hi, I have just seen these large shrimp for sale in my LFS for around £10 and was wondering what there needs and requirements are?

Has anybody on here owned / have knowledge of this species? Not sure if they go by another name, so sorry if this sounds a little vague. All I can tell you is that they are around 2 1/2 - 3 inches long and have a blueish hue to them.

Cheers,

Bricko

do a forum search using Vampire shrimp, Armoured shrimp, several of our members keep them. they do however need to be kept on their own!!!!!!!!!!!! or with other Armoured shrimp, in a well planted tank.

because they are nervous and very vulnerable to attack, especially when moulting. best of luck with your stock and the shrimp!

that's good to hear. forgive the tone of my last post, sometimes they don't read like you thought they did, when you wrote them! i am far from being someone who insists on conformation to the norm, check out some threads on Crayfish, and you will see what i mean. i would be interested in the lengths the shrimp goes to in order to hide. there is little, useful, information on these guys. your experiences may well help people in the future.

I forgive you :p

Honestly, i never see this guy. now and again at like midnight he's sometimes filtering away... but that's about it. constantly hiding lol

I keep mine with fish too (just Corys and Harelequin Rasboras) but again my tank is well planted and he has loads of wood to hide under. I'm sure i read for filter shrimp having some fish in the tank is a good idea as it encourages the microscopic life the filter shrimp eat but I can't remember where I read it!

He's getting less shy now. He likes to sit near my corys at feeding time and filter some of the mess they make while eating. He has been more active since i added some Cherry Shrimp into the tank, whether is because he feels more secure or the cherrys have chased him out of which ever hole he used to hide in I don't know!
