A True Oddball
hi,
Thanks to every one who has helped me so far, but I thought I'd start a new link, which is relevaqnt to the correct species, as I miss judged the fish in the not-so-lfs.
I have come up with a list of possible tankmates for my bichir: (I'm not keeping all these its just a list)
- stripped talking catfish (Platydora Costatus )
- Other talking Catfish
- Lima Shovelnose Cat
- Large Synodontis
- Large Cichlids (although not ones that are overly agressive)
- Ancistrus (Bristlenose Catfish/Plec)
- Clown Loach (3"-4"+)
- Large Barbs i.e.: Tin Foil Barbs
- African Black Knife Fish
- Black Ghost Knife Fish
- Brown Knife Fish
- Elephant Nose Fish
- LungFish
- Rays
- Discus
- Climbing Perch
- Butterfly fish
One other species I was wondeirng about was an Oscar, yeah I know its a cichlid , but do they need to be kept in larger setups, and in twos?
As you can see a lot of those fish can't be kept in my tank setup, as its not big enough.
The setup I have created while the tank is cycling, is a sand subtrate, with two large peices of bogwood, one it balanced over some small and large stone to create a cave, which has wholes in so you can still, just about, see the fish when they are hiding. there are a few rock/stones placed through out the floor of the tank.
The tank was second hand, and has a blue light at the moment? I'm going to be buying a normal light for it when I get the cash. (this whole tank is being setup with money gained form my birthday, on the 18th Jan, yay! free!!)
Is there anything else you would suggest I put in tank, decore wise?
I am going to be getting my own place, hopefully within the next 18 months, and I have my eye on a 9' tank, which was a steal at £600.
So there will be plenty of room for the fish then.
This list will hopefully help other who are looking at getting some bichirs, as I have spent about 4-5 days looking over the net, trying to find information, and there are a lot of oppinions about tank mates, but the listed ones seem to be unversially excepted.
Well I'm still gathering information, and I hope you can all help me out some more, still about 2-3 weeks before I go buy my fish.
For those who haven't read my previous thread about this tank, here is the Spec:
