A few weeks ago i bought what i thought were armano shrimp
have now found them to be bamboo shrimp as they have coloured up and are now a beautiful mahogany colour with a lovely primrose yellow stripe.
when i bought them they were labled armano and looked very pale and washed out.
i bought them because they were huddled in a corner looking desperately for somewere to hide poor things.
they are nowjust over two inches will they get much bigger?
They are in a community tank of 190 liters with guppys and platys and a few neons.
i also have 1 cherry ( last one left so i bought it as i felt sorry for it)and a giant filter shrimp.
He/she is so ugly but i just love him, this one gets pretty big i think its about 2 inches at the moment.
I am now setting up a tank solely for shrimp.
Does any one know where i can get some chrystal shrimp? and what are ideal plants for them?

Hi,
I don't where you could get the shrimp, maybe a shop or online. Just a comment on your community though (baring in mind when you didn't say how many I chose mimimum advised numbers). Your fish/shrimp will be happy in the following conditions;
Temperature; 21-25 degrees celcius.
PH; 6-7.6
Hardness; 5-15 DH
Weekly Water Change Amount; 12%
Aquarium Stocking level; 41%

I would not reccomend getting different species of shrimp in the 1 tank, they will inter-breed and the off-spring wont be very nice

No i just want the one species in the shrimp tank.
Thebamboo shrimp i read are difficult to breed as the baby shrimp need brackish water i believe.
I have two bamboo shrimp, one cherry, and a filter shrimp.eight guppy adults though they have bred and the young are about 20 at the moment that the lfs shop will take when they are big enough five neon tetra
and six baby apple snails.
am i over stocked?i know the guppies are getting too many but i can move them on.i change water 25% a week, tank well planted with plenty of hidy holes and some bog wood though i have gravel substrate which is prbably the wrong stuff for shrimp?

water ph is 7.6
dont know my hardness but will get it tested asap.

In 190l, if anything id say Under-Stocked. :good: What filtration do you have, and are you keeping the 190l as a shrimp only tank.

I am cycling a smaller tank 30 litres foe just one species hopefully chrystal shrimp.
I have power filter in the big tank6oo it is a jewel.
the smaller tank has a fluval filter that i now think will be a bit too powerful for the small shrimp
unless i put some old stocking over it to stop the shrimp getting drawn in.
what filter would you recommend for a 30 litre tank.?

Ok, so for the smaller tank you could cover the outlet if not then a cycle a small Stingray as shrimps dont produce much waste.

Ok thanks, i realised when i switched it on that it will be too powerful but as i already had it i thought i would give it a go but it will blast the pooor things all over the tank good for salmon though
