Hello, i am looking at purchasing an Arius seemani, a brackish fish which is sold as freshwater... at none other than.... Wal-mart! Only to die in the hands of FW keepers a month later. Those bastards, Wal-mart.

Anyways, im asking if these guys can go into marine - and what effect they may have on resident animals. I read somewhere that they can, although TFF members are often far more reliable than an outdated book.
For instance, in my book, it says you can put a shoal of 5 anthias in a 33 gallon, and it says that all tangs will kill inverts. Hah!

Ive never seen one in a SW tank, and dought they would survive the higher levels of salinity.

Too large for your tank and they wont be happy in SG high enoughto run a marine tank.

Colombian shark catfishes have become very popular in recent years. They are big, powerful looking animals with sleek silver bodies and active natures. Although distinctly predatory, they are not aggressive and on the contrary, can be bullied by fishes like cichlids. Hexanematichthys seemanni (sometimes referred to as Arius seemani or Arius jordani) lives in fresh and brackish waters, and sometimes enters the sea. In aquaria hard, alkaline water is critical, as is a powerful filter and good oxygenation. A specific gravity of 1.005 to 1.015 is about right, with regular fluctuations within this range being beneficial to health. They need a big, roomy tank with a powerful motorised filte
