I've just come in to find the tank has been off all night, no heater and no filter.......I'm SO ANNOYED!!!!
Fish are all alive, I've not turned the light on yet as I don't normally do that until 12, plus I don't think any extra stress is going to help, temp is right down to 20 degrees C.

Will this have killed off all my filter bacteria? Also is there anything I can do to ease the fishes stress?
This happened to me a few months back after which I suffered a bda columnaris strain, I'm so paranoid now it's going to set something else off :(
one of the harleys may be swimming at a slight diagonal angle / like that......is that bad?

AhHHHHhHHhh god I can't believe my bad luck at the moment :( :-(

so far i've just turned everything back on, temp is beginning to creep slowly back up (tank sits about about 24 degrees C usually)
I plan to do a water test in a few hours just to make sure....do I put the light on as normal at 12? This normally raises the temp a little too, closer to 25 degrees C while it's on.

Trying not to panick, it's not as bad as last time as it happened when I was doing a heat treatment on ich last time and it fell much more dramatically than 4 degrees, so fingers crossed nothing will outbreak from this!

just tested the water for ammonia and nitrites, i think the filter being off has knocked the bacteria, ammonia is just below 0.25 and nitrite is just above 0.

I will do a water change, I don't want the levels causing disease as this is what happened last time!

As long as the temp didnt drop to fast they should be ok.
The tanks gone into a mini cycle.
How are the fish acting.

Nah it was off overnight for about 10 hours ish, and it only dropped 4 degrees C, so I am pretty sure it dropped very slowly, it took a good 3 hours maybe a bit more to warm up again, I did the water change, and everyone thankfully is acting fine, I will keep my beady eyes out for any odd behaviour!

Dosn't sound to bad then.
Good luck.

no hopefully not, and hopefully i can prevent disease this time because i've learnt from last time to keep checking the water stats, which last time i don't think i checked that soon after it happened, which lead to a nitrite spike and illness.....booo!
