I was just wondering if anybody knows if black C. aeneus are available in Australia and if so where from. Really beautiful and look fantastic against white sand.

There is no black corys in the aeneus species, the black are more than likely a colour morph of the schultzei cory.

Unsure of the availability in australia though ...

Ok its :good: just that even a couple of sites online had them named as C. aeneus along with another variety called green laser. The colour of the black ones is a real black and the black on the tail looks nearly a deep red.
Appears to be some confusion in the fish expert world as even the sites end up using both names almost interchangably :grr: But I did find a list of fish from a Perth fish group that reckoned that the ones I am after are in Australia, so if anybody knows where the fish might be I'd love to hear from you

The species is C. schultzei - "Black." - Frank

Hey Frank maybe you can help Id my little mystery fish that I have not been able to find a name for. Its picture is my avatar but there is a slightly better pic in my profile. Just remeber I am in Australia and the breeds are pretty limited. If possible I would like to get some more and try getting them to breed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :good:

Virtually impossible to tell from that pic, but I would say C. sodalis. - Frank
Ok thanks, :good: I have been trolling catfish picture sites and the closest I have come up with are c.sodali, c.similis but without the dark patch, c.albolineatus but mine has finner spots or c.polystictus. They are sweet little guys but really hard to get a good open photo of always swimming off at the last moment or hiding behind the tank- like peppereds.
Just wondered if you had ever come acorss any mutant strebai, I think the little white one I have breed is a strebai who has jet balck eyes and only a couple of pale small mottled patches on its tail, too small to see if its pale peppered markings or strebai spots.

No. If it does not have the dark peduncle then why would you think that? Do you think some have it and some don't? It doesn't quite work that way.
c. albolineatus
Not a chance.

Wrong, again.

Only time will tell. I'm not big on "maybe" and "could be." Of course, I'm old and jaded. lol.- Frank
